Resident Evil Season 1 on Netflix | All We Know So Far

A Resident Evil series is coming to Netflix. After years of hoaxes, confirmation, and then a long wait, the first details are slowly being released about the first season of Resident Evil. It should be released on Netflix in 2021. Here is all we know so far.

Resident Evil is the next Netflix Original series based on the Capcom game of the same name. The franchise starting in 1996 has spawned numerous video game sequels, novels, and a popular movie franchise.

Two decades later, the franchise is still going strong. With such a variety of sources at their disposal, we look forward to seeing what Netflix has to offer for their own original series.

Netflix itself has not published anything official about the series until August 27, 2020. That’s when they published the first details via the NXonNetflix account.

The season of 8 x 1-hour episodes will be directed by Andrew Dabb (Supernatural), Bronwen Hughes (The Walking Dead, The Journey Is the Destination) will direct the first two episodes.

What is the plot of Resident Evil Season 1?

The series was first announced in January 2019 according to Deadline. The following has been said about the plot of the upcoming Resident Evil series;

No one is commenting, but I hear that the plan is that the series will expand the resident evil universe and deepen the existing mythology.

We hear that the series will retain the basic principle, which has also served as a setup for the movie franchise. The drama-series will explore the dark inner workings of the umbrella corporation and the new world order caused by the T virus epidemic.

Although the project is still in its infancy, the series is expected to incorporate all the characteristic elements of resident evil, including action sequences and “Easter eggs”.

In early 2020, the Netflix Media site listed an official description of the history of the series (although it has since been removed). Here’s what the description says:

The city of Clearfield, Maryland, has long stood in the shadow of three seemingly independent behemoths: The umbrella corporation, the disused greenwood asylum in Washington. So now, twenty-six years after the discovery of the t-virus, secrets held by all three will begin to be revealed at the first signs of an epidemic.

In the production notes, the story is recorded as follows:

“The series will explore the dark inner workings of the umbrella corporation and the new world order caused by the t-virus epidemic”.

In the script that was posted by NXonNetflix, we know that episode 1 is called “Welcome to New Racoon City” and is written by Andrew Dabb and directed by Bronwen Hughes (The Walking Dead, The Journey Is the Destination).

How far is the production of the first season of Resident Evil?

Finally, more than a year after discovering the Resident Evil series, in February 2020, we have new information from our friends at Redanian Intelligence who provide us with excellent insights into The Witcher.

They revealed that the series was still in progress, with initial pre-production taking place in April 2020 before the main shoot between June and October 2020. As previously planned, the series is being filmed in South Africa.

Eight episodes should make up the first season

In March 2020, in parallel with the announcement that the shooting of Resident Evil was delayed due to a coronavirus, we will also give some additional details about the show.

According to ProductionWeekly, Andrew Dabb, who spent years producing Supernatural for The CW, is expected to become the showrunner for Netflix’s Resident Evil series. Supernatural ends after 15 seasons. Oliver Berben is attached to the production and Johannes Roberts will direct. This was confirmed via the NX account on Netflix on August 27, 2020.

Who is in the cast of Resident Evil season 1?

Only one member of the cast has not yet been chosen for the first season of Resident Evil. We expect casting news to arrive in the coming months.

Resident Evil has a large number of characters that Constantin’s films can select. It would be in Constantin’s best interest to use some of these characters to keep fans of the franchise engaged. Where the timeline will start for the series is debatable, but it will determine which characters can or cannot be used.
As Netflix has not yet announced a cast, we have created our own wish list for the series.

According to our sources, some casting offers have been proposed to the following actors:

Please note that offers have been made to the actors but no cast members have yet been officially confirmed for the series.

Some actors may have their schedules conflict with the proposed shooting dates for Resident Evil. Ross Lynch currently stars in the cast of Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, and Brenton Thwaites plays Robin on the Titans.

Will the first season of Resident Evil be an anime, a CGI, or a live-action series?

The new Netflix Resident Evil series will be 100% live-action. Constantin Germany has only managed live-action adaptations of titles from video games, comic books, and novels.

Over the years, there have been manga titles for the Resident Evil franchise that have not yet been adopted. With the original anime titles on Netflix becoming more and more popular, it would not be surprising if an anime adaptation could eventually come along.

We have also heard from sources that a restart of the movie is also underway outside of the Netflix series project.
